Irish artist Barry Edwards, Waterford

These latest sketches are from the last couple of years of my continued walking trips around Waterford and Wexford making numerous drawings on the spot in mixed media. These sketches are then torn up, reassembled and worked on further in the studio to form new compositions. I have always enjoyed working outside in all weathers returning to the same spots again and again. I have started to use the sketches to make larger paintings in the studio. I like to use one or several sketches as a starting point and allow the paintings to develop on their own without any planning or idea as to where their going. That's the exciting thing about painting for me.
