Derek Lyons is an enthusiastic painter. Born and raised in Dublin he completed a degree in design communication in Limerick college of art. Over the last couple of years his work has drawn the attention of collectors and galleries.

'I'm a painter I use brushes and paint to recreate an image that has caught my eye not always to every detail but in a way that I hope will get people to stop and look again at the same scene and see it with fresh eyes. Painting for me is a skill that I'm constantly trying improve I won't say master as I'm not sure I ever will. I do strive to capture some of the essence and emotion felt from coming across a scene that moves me to paint. Every painting I do I learn something from. Even though I've travelled widely still my inspiration comes from views I find on my sketching trips around the city and country. Although I change styles and mediums on a regular basis the underling approach to my work is the pursuit of capturing an image and rendering it to the best of my ability to provoke the same sence of wonder that caught my eye in the first place. There is no deep and meaningful view on life and death in my paintings instead I hope people will see the work that has gone into them and look again with fresh eyes at the beauty that surrounds them.'
