Irish artist Helen Merrigan Colfer, Wexford

Helen attended Waterford Institute of Technology and The Crawford College of Art in Cork from 1982 to 1987 graduating with an honors Diploma in Fine Art and honors Higher Diploma in Art and Design Education. She was an art teacher from 1987 to 2004. She was head of the Art Department in Athlone Community College until she resigned from her permanent post in 2004 so that she could dedicate herself full time to her artwork. She was also an Art Examiner for the Department of Education for ten years.

Helen is an Irish artist, living and working from her studio in her home at the tip of the Hook Head Peninsula in County Wexford, Ireland. While Helen has been a figurative painter for years she has in more recent years turned to working in three dimensions. Since 2014 she has been creating sculptures inspired by the coastal landscape which surrounds her home. She is known for her slender equine sculptures and more recently her unique figurative pieces. Her work is owned by people in America, Europe and Ireland. She is represented by The Doorway Gallery in Dublin.
