Irish artist Hugh P. Magrath, Longford

I live in South Co.Longford and have always had a strong sense of visual awareness. Whilst attending weekend painting courses and over time, being introduced to pastels,acrylics,oils, and water colours I developed a sense of the properties of these media.

I worked in the drawing department of a Civil Engineering company, however with the downturn in the economy in late 2008, redundancy came my way. I used this opportunity to go back to education and enrolled on the Fine Art Course in Sligo IT, graduating in 2014. Light,colour and form are elements I consider important in artwork.

Photographs are a great way of collecting accurate information quickly when visiting a new area of visual research. However I like to use the photographic image as the first step of a stairs; each subsequent image moving a step further away from the original image yet still related - an abstraction. However some artwork needs detail and accuracy, it just comes down to painting with a sense of feeling.
