Irish artists - Kate Rocks - Bowls with Blue" title="Art, Bowls with Blue"

I have drawn and painted all my life. At school I had two loves: art and music. Persuaded by an enthusiastic teacher, I embarked on a music career. During which time I painted intermittently when time would allow. Having taught music for thirty years I finally gave up in order to devote myself entirely to painting.
I am a member of both the Ulster Women Artists ( U.W.A.) and the Arts Society of Ulster ( A.S.U.) and have exhibited and sold with both societies. I exhibit annually with the Cavehill Gallery at their Christmas exhibition and have undertaken various private commissions. I paint mainly in oils. I am inspired daily, by everything around me. My paintings are also inspired by the beauty of the North coast, and the scenery around my local area in Belfast. As well as landscape, I also enjoy figurative / portrait painting and still life. I am fascinated by the effect of light and shade on a subject.
I am passionate about my art and see my whole approach as about experimenting, and developing as a painter. I realise that painting is a continuous learning process and as such it is a lesson I continuously and immensely enjoy.
