Irish artist Katherine Byrne, Sligo and Portugal

I work from my studios in Co. Sligo and the Alentejo in Portugal. My artistic journey began with painting watercolour dog portraits, I painted what I was passionate about and completed many commissions of family pets.

My work hangs in Kilmantin Arts, Co Wicklow and Solas Art Gallery in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim. I take part in the annual Boyle Arts Open Exhibition and Arts Trail and I will exhibit in Artexpo Algarve, Portugal in September 2023. Using a combination of mediums, primarily watercolour, my art depicts mystical images and semi-abstract nature subjects which I portray using vivid colours and different textures to demonstrate the ever moving and changing aspect of life itself.

Working in a fluid, quick and loose style is my method of choice. Exploring vibrant, semi-abstract shapes and unusual textures, my creative urge has resulted in an impulsive and energetic process. Hazy landscape, themes of dreams, new life and bright, colourful, sunny days feature strongly in my work which often results in a semi abstract impressionistic style.

Original artwork, online and Worldwide (since 2000)
