English artist Maria Bagnoli, England and Leitrim

Born 1961, Camberwell Art school, London 1984 BA Hons in painting, held workshops at Southill Park art centre, Bracknell, then lived in Scotland and in Italy and Portugal. Ireland in 2001. Joined Leitrim sculpture centre for print making. Exhibited in group shows and solo show in Sligo 2012.

Painting, drawing and printmaking for me are processes and I like to discover what the mediums can do as much as making an image. I work from nature as a starting point. Critical awareness is of importance to me, as is development and change. I often look at the early work of Rothko, and Tony O'Malley, Gwen John, as well as early phography (daguerratype), Bacon and Velasquez.

Original artwork, online and Worldwide (since 2000)
