Irish artist Micheal Gallagher, Belfast and Donegal

Raised in Belfast and living in Donegal, my art explores the nature, landscape, history and people of Ireland. I am a self-taught artist, and I continue to develop and adapt my techniques.

My style is constantly evolving: sometimes vibrant and expressionistic, other times reserved and representational. I usually complete series of works: 'Indigenous' looked at the native wildlife of Ireland; 'Heroes' depicted some of my literary and artistic giants; 'Land-escapes' captured scenic areas, particularly around Donegal; and in 'In This Supreme Hour' I recreated some iconic images from the 1916 Easter Rising.

I work closely with Feile an Phobail in Belfast. Every year I liaise with artists and collate works for inclusion in their annual Visual Arts exhibition. If anyone is interested in exhibiting work in the August 2021 Feile in Belfast, please get in touch with me via email: [email protected].
