Irish artist Micheal O'Muirthile, Cork

Micheal O'Muirthile is a national prize-winning artist from Ireland whose forte includes equine art, landscape and portraiture paintings and drawings. In his work, he looks to celebrate his local surroundings, both rural and urban, its wildlife, its biodiversity and its history.

Although having started out primarily with a realist style, O'Muirthile’s most recent work has become more impressionistic, with an increasing use of sgraffito and impasto giving dynamic textural depth. O'Muirthile is particularly interested in rural areas and looks to evoke their timeless quality within his works. Unchanged for centuries and devoid of people, transport and technology in a lot of instances, the artist sees the rural landscape as a special continuum which can never be dated to one specific time.

He currently lives in Macroom town in County Cork, where he has his studio; this is open to the public throughout the year - check out 'Art on Main Street' on FaceBook for details. His work is in private collections throughout Ireland, England, continental Europe, America, Canada, Australia and the Middle East.

Contact Micheal at [email protected] if you are interested in purchasing any of his work including limited-edition prints or visit www.michealomuirthile.com to see more of his work.
