Irish artist Nigel McAuley, Antrim

Nigel McAuley was born and grew up in Belfast. He studied Art at Rupert Stanley College before commencing a degree course in Design at the University of Ulster, Magee College. Unfortunately his age and his first taste of living away from home were not entirely compatible with the demands of university life and he left Magee before completing his degree. At this point Nigel felt that he had failed as an artist and his relationship with art was affected for many years.

He followed his father into a career in the Civil Service where he still works today. He met and married his wife Debbie in 2004 and moved to her home town of Larne before settling in the rural village of Glynn in 2006 to raise their three children. It was the inspiration of the beautiful buildings and landmarks of the Antrim coastline that inspired Nigel to begin sketching again.

As his proud wife began posting his drawings on her facebook page, people soon began commissioning his work. He started selling some of his work through local shops and cafes and was Artist of The Month in May 2014 with an exhibition at The Bank House Gallery in Whitehead. Nigel continues to draw regularly having fallen in love with art again.
