I am a Laois based artist. I work from life, either on self portraits or from a live model. The process of drawing from life allows me to observe and record nuances of colour, form and how the light falls upon the face and figure. Using pastels or paint, I throw down colours, and stick to a restricted palette to achieve tonal contrast in a subtle manner. I am both challenged and fascinated by the effect of light falling on the body and facial features, and the difference that a slight movement or change in light can make whilst working from life.
