Ruth Egan is a Dublin-based Irish artist who studied visual arts at fine art academy Sint Lukas in Brussels, Belgium. Her work is mainly in painting and some printmaking (generally once-off monoprints). Painting is usually done with acrylics or oils and sometimes also incorporates images created through the printmaking process as a basis for form or texture. The subject matter is often figurative, with form as a means of exploring colour and texture by building up layer upon layer of various consistencies and hues of paint, differently patterned and surfaced to create a complexity and depth in the finished work. The artist has exhibited in Belgium and Ireland - at venues such as Mullingar Arts Centre, former Bank of Ireland Arts Centre (Dublin), Powerscourt Townhouse (Dublin) and Gallery 'Contact J' ( Antwerp) among others - and exhibits regularly on Merrion Square and Stephen's Green in Dublin.
