Irish artist Zane Sutra, Latvia and Wexford

Originally from Riga Latvia, Zane Sutra is now a painter who has been living in Wexford, Ireland for twenty years. Her work is monochrome figurative oil paintings informed by work of Irish fashion designers, photographers and her model daughters.

The discussion subject of 'representationalism' in art is Zane's current source of inspiration. Her characters portray paradox between the grace and ruthlessness, innocence and crime, genuine and fake - which are inherent in our postmodern pre-apocalyptic world.

Her portraits are symbols pointing to dangerous pleasures, confronting our fear and mortality. By synthesizing the human and divine, Zane’s work is collaging the enigmatic connection of current and timeless.
