All my life I have painted, less during my time as a Senior Lecturer at ITCarlow, and Associate Lecturer with the Open University. As a painter I am self-taught. Over the years I have exhibited in group shows, one 2person show and two solo shows, with a third due to take place in mid-September, 2017, in the Watergarden's Gallery, Thomastown, Co.Kilkenny. The exhibition just ended, July 17th, 2017, was at the Copper Museum, Allihies. The title was Children of Lir. This arose as a consequence of I, on a walk on a back road of Allihies, cam across a sign pointing to the final landing place of these mythical children of King Lir. I was enchanted and decided instantly that I would love to try my hand at painting around that event. As a legend it is about a wicked step-mother, but I think it is more about Transformation. It seems to me that even the selection of three (3) periods of banishment is significant in that the total number adds up to nine. When I checked on the numerology sites I learned that 9 is the number which signifies 'Enlightenment' , whatever that means.
