Artist David Mackay, England and Wicklow

I was born in 1966 in Liverpool, at 23 I studied general art and design at Liverpool city college. From there I went on to do a B.A.hons course at university in Preston graduating in 1994.

In 2002 I moved with my family to Cork where we lived until December 2012, when we relocated to Wicklow where we now reside. Having only painted sporadically since my degree, it wasn't until 2012 that my desire to create work regularly was re-awoken when I was asked by a relative to paint a large canvas.

The inspiration for my current work comes from the local landscapes, though largely representational, I try to capture the moods and atmospheres that are constantly changing with the light and passage of time. My preferred medium is oils, although I have previously employed other media such as metals, glass and wood. I also wish to as I have done so in the past, experiment and diversify with both theme and style.
