Irish artist Kathleen Gormley, Dublin and Offaly

Born in Dublin I grew up in Birr. I began painting after returning from Brussels to Birr in 2003 and I work from my studio at home. My favourite painting themes are world cultures, music - I especially love the energy of Latin American jazz and the rhythm of African music and as I often listen to this music while painting it invariably finds its way unto canvas. I am also inspired by Byzantine icons and love to paint angel figures using icons as a reference. I love to try to convey the sense of stillness that is part of the mystical nature of Byzantine Icons. When I paint I tend to go with the mood or what inspires me at a particular time.

I personally believe that art should uplift, bring beauty joy or humour to the viewer and I love when my art can bring a smile to someone's face.
