I was born in Belfast, and have spent most of my life in Newtownabbey. My father was a great collector of art, and from my teenage years I developed a keen interest in art, and then painting. Accepted into ArtCollege at the age of 17, I decided instead to train as a teacher, and worked part-time with special needs children when bringing up my own family. However, the desire to paint has never gone away, and I began painting in earnest at the beginning of 2009. Since I began exhibiting my paintings in 2012, I have exhibited my paintings several times with the Arts Society of Ulster's Annual Exhibition, the Flax Gallery at Mossley Mill, the Higgin Gallery in Belfast, and many other smaller venues around Northern Ireland.
I paint mostly Northern Ireland landscapes in oils. As a child I had a fascination with pictures of enchanted woodlands in fairy tale books. And to-day I find this fascination filters through increasingly into my own paintings. To-day the woodlands, flowers and landscapes of Northern Ireland are my inspiration, often at times when the light casts a magical glow on all around it.
